Lambiel paces Europeans to win

SAITAMA (Kyodo) Team Japan, led by 2008 world champion Mao Asada, saw its bid for the fourth consecutive title dashed as the host team finished third in the Japan Open on Saturday.

Former world champion Stephane Lambiel of Switzerland had the highest score of 150.52 points to help Europe win the three-team event for the first time with a total of 464.03 points.

North America, whose Joannie Rochette produced the highest score of 126.39 for the women’s portion, came in second with 463.90 points, 29.73 points ahead of Japan at the Saitama Super Arena.
