Yonemitsu earns 66-kg bronze at wrestling worlds

HERNING, Denmark (Kyodo) Tatsuhiro Yonemitsu won the men’s freestyle 66-kg bronze medal in his debut at the World Wrestling Championships on Monday.

The 23-year-old Yonemitsu fell to Russian Rasul Djukaev in the quarterfinals but rebounded in repechage before beating Beijing Olympic bronze medalist Sushil Kumar of India in the match for third place.

Iran’s Kermani Taghavi captured the gold while the silver went to Djukaev.

In other men’s freestyle action, Shinichi Yumoto (55 kg) and Takao Isokawa (96 kg) both lost in the second round and failed to advance to repechage. Athens Olympic champion Khadzhimurat Gatsalov of Russia claimed the title at 96 kg.
