NIIGATA – Stephen Randolph took over for starter Ryan Glynn, who was mistakenly penciled in on the lineup card, with one out in the first inning and struck out 15 batters the rest of the way in the Yokohama BayStars’ 2-0 shutout of the Chunichi Dragons on Saturday.
Randolph (2-1) allowed two hits and walked three in 8 2/3 innings at Hard Off Eco Stadium Niigata. Shigeru Morikasa hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first.
Takashi Ogasawara (5-2) was tagged with the loss for the Dragons, who dropped their fourth in a row.

At Tokyo Dome, Tetsuya Utsumi struck out nine en route to his first shutout of the season, leading Yomiuri in a romp over Tokyo Yakult.
Utsumi (6-10) scattered seven hits and walked none to win his first decision since Aug. 7, and Shinnosuke Abe went 3-for-4 with a solo homer off Takehiko Oshimoto (1-5) and two RBIs in the 10-hit attack.

At Mazda Stadium, Kenta Kurihara hit a tying two-run homer in the fourth inning and Akihiro Higashide singled in the go-ahead run in the fifth as Hiroshima rallied to beat Hanshin.
Yuki Saito (9-8) won his third straight decision after allowing two runs and five hits in six innings. Katsuhiro Nagakawa pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his 28th save.

At Sendai’s Kleenex Stadium, Terrmel Sledge hit a three-run homer to highlight a six-run third inning as Masaru Takeda and Hokkaido Nippon Ham cruised past Tohoku Rakuten.
Takeda (7-7) limited the damage to three runs on eight hits, striking out five and walking one in his second complete game of the year.

At Fukuoka’s Yahoo Dome, Hidenori Tanoue and Kenji Akashi drove in three runs apiece as Fukuoka Softbank came from behind to rout Saitama Seibu for its fourth consecutive win.
Nobuhiko Matsunaka hit a tiebreaking RBI double, Tanoue drew a bases-loaded walk and Akashi had a two-run double in a six-run third inning as the Hawks went up 6-1. Akashi added a two-out RBI single in a three-run fourth and Tanoue hit a two-run homer in the sixth.
D.J. Houlton (10-6) allowed three runs on nine hits over seven innings.

At Kobe’s Skymark Stadium, Kazuya Fukuura hit a tiebreaking double and Hisao Heiuchi homered in a three-run 10th as Chiba Lotte rallied past Orix.
