OSAKA (Kyodo) Nobuo Nashiro will attempt to defend his WBC super flyweight title for the second time against Mexico’s Hugo Cazares in September, his Muto boxing gym said on Monday.
The 27-year-old Nashiro will face Cazares, ranked second in the WBC rankings, on Sept. 30 at Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium annex.
“I want to make it a solid victory and reassure my wife. I saw (Cazares) on video and he is strong,” said Nashiro, who was married in April. “It will be a close-range fight so I want to win with a knockout.”
Nashiro stopped Japanese compatriot Konosuke Tomiyama in the eighth round in his first title defense in April after sustaining two knockdowns in a come-from-behind victory.
