Yumoto seals wrestling world slot

Defending champion Shinichi Yumoto won a berth to his first wrestling world championships after beating Hidenori Taoka in the men’s freestyle 55-kg final at the national invitational tournament on Sunday.

Yumoto, who took the national title in the same category last December, defeated Taoka 2-1 after the pair drew even in three periods, deploying a counter maneuver against his opponent’s tackle to claim victory at Yoyogi National Gymnasium Annex.

The invitational doubled as a qualifier for the world championships in Denmark in September. National champions qualify for the worlds by winning the invitational title.
