Yokomine wins shortened Nichirei

MIHO, Ibaraki Pref. (Kyodo) Money rankings leader Sakura Yokomine captured her third title of the season on Sunday at the rain-shortened Nichirei PGM Ladies.

Yokomine held a two-shot overnight lead and clinched victory after organizers were forced to suspend and eventually cancel Sunday’s final round because of torrential rain at Miho Golf Club.

“I was just lucky,” said Yokomine, who finished with a 36-hole total of 8-under 136 for her 12th career win.

“If you think the tournament is going to be canceled your motivation drops, so I was just waiting and ready to play. I think I have done well to win three tournaments this season. I am building good pace,” said the popular 23-year-old.
