SENDAI – Rick Short hit a three-run homer to highlight a seven-run eighth inning as the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles won their fifth straight by rallying to beat the Orix Buffaloes 8-4 on Sunday.
After Orix went up 2-1 in the sixth, Takeshi Yamasaki had a game-tying double followed by Norihiro Nakamura’s RBI fielder’s choice for the go-ahead run in the eighth at Kleenex Stadium.
Short went deep to left with runners on the corners and one out to cap the big inning for the Pacific League leader.
Hawks 7, Marines 2
At Yahoo Dome, left-hander Toshiya Sugiuchi pitched two-run ball over seven effective innings and got plenty of run support as Softbank routed Chiba Lotte.
Sugiuchi (3-1) allowed four hits, including a pair of solo homers by Saburo Omura and Chase Lambin. He struck out eight and walked four. Lefty Yoshihisa Naruse (1-1) was chased after yielding five runs in 3 1/3 innings.
Nobuhiko Matsunaka had a tiebreaking single and Yuya Hasegawa’s RBI grounder made it 3-1 in the third. Satoru Morimoto added a run-scoring single in the fourth and a Hidenori Tanoue two-run double made it 7-1 one inning later.
Fighters 6, Lions 5 (12)
At Sapporo Dome, Atsunori Inaba hit a game-winning solo homer in the 12th inning, lifting Hokkaido Nippon Ham to its second consecutive walk-off victory against Seibu.
Inaba went deep over the right-center wall off Chikara Onodera (1-2) for the decisive blow. Keisuke Tanimoto (2-0) loaded the bases with two outs in the top half but got Takayuki Shimizu to fly out to left to end the threat.
Makoto Kaneko and Terrmel Sledge also homered for the Fighters. Takeya Nakamura had a three-run drive and solo shot for the Lions.
Giants 4, Tigers 0
At Koshien Stadium, Hayato Sakamoto and Michihiro Ogasawara drove in two runs apiece to back a solid pitching effort by Dicky Gonzalez as Yomiuri won its third straight game and extended its unbeaten streak against Hanshin to 12 games, including a tie, since Aug. 30, 2008.
Sakamoto had RBI singles in the second and sixth innings. Ogasawara singled in two runs in the fifth off Taiwanese right-hander Cheng Kai-wen.

At Yokohama Stadium, Chen Wei-yin threw his first shutout of the season to lift Chunichi over Yokohama and snap the team’s four-game losing skid.
Chen (2-1) retired the first 18 batters he faced before yielding a single by Takehiro Ishikawa leading off the seventh. He allowed five hits, all singles, struck out five and walked two.
Swallows 3, Carp 2
At Mazda Stadium, Norichika Aoki broke a 2-2 tie with a solo homer in the eighth inning as Yakult held off Hiroshima.
Kenta Kurihara hit a two-run blast to give the Carp a 2-0 lead in the fourth but RBI hits by Shinya Miyamoto and Jamie D’Antona tied the game in the fifth.
