NISHINOMIYA, Hyogo Pref. – Takashi Toritani drove in the tiebreaking run on a two-out single in the seventh inning as the Hanshin Tigers staved off the Chunichi Dragons in a 4-3 win in the Central League on Thursday.
Toritani had a two-run homer in the opening frame against Takuya Asao (1-2) and singled in the seventh followed by Tomoaki Kanemoto’s RBI double to make it 4-2 at Koshien Stadium.
Scott Atchison (1-0) got the win in relief and closer Kyuji Fujikawa worked the ninth for his second save. Hanshin was winless in its last five games, including one tie.

At Jingu Stadium, Keizo Kawashima had a tiebreaking three-run homer in the fifth inning as Yakult beat Yomiuri to pick up its first win in three games.
Shohei Tateyama (1-0) limited the damage to two runs and five hits in seven innings, striking out eight with no walks.
Shinya Miyamoto added an RBI triple followed by a Ryoji Aikawa sacrifice fly for insurance in the sixth. Michihiro Ogasawara hit a pair of solo blasts and went 3-for-4 for the Giants, who saw their undefeated streak end at eight games, including two ties.

At Yahoo Dome, Takeya Nakamura hit a pair of three-run homers among his three hits, leading Seibu past Softbank.
Nakamura went deep in consecutive at-bats in the fifth and seventh innings after Hiroshi Hirao’s two-run homer off Kenji Otonari (0-2) put the Lions ahead 5-4 in the fourth.
Fumiya Nishiguchi (2-0) picked up the win after allowing five runs in 5 1/3 innings.

At Sapporo Dome, Masaru Takeda posted his first career complete-game win as Hokkaido Nippon Ham romped over Orix.
Takeda (1-0) allowed one run and six hits, striking out six without a walk. Shinya Nakayama (0-1) was charged with six runs in five innings.
The Fighters turned a 1-0 deficit into a 4-1 lead in the second on RBI grounders from Tomohiro Nioka and Kensuke Tanaka, followed by a two-run throwing error by Hirotoshi Kitagawa.

Matsuzaka on DL
OAKLAND , Calif. (Kyodo) The Boston Red Sox said Wednesday they have placed Daisuke Matsuzaka on the 15-day disabled list due to a mild right shoulder strain.
Red Sox manager Terry Francona said Matsuzaka will be looked at on Friday.
