Teenager Kosei Miura picked up his 100th career win Saturday, making him the fastest jockey in Japan Racing Association history to reach the mark.
Miura’s victory on Infinite Air in the day’s fourth race at Tokyo Racecourse came 11 months and seven days since his JRA debut on March 1, 2008.
It took all-time JRA wins leader Yutaka Take, the previous record holder, one year, one month and 16 days to win 100 races.
“I could hardly wait for this 100th win,” the 19-year-old Miura said. “I hope I’ll be able to move into title contention with top jockeys in big races by the end of the year.”
Last year, Miura rode 91 winning horses to break the previous rookie record of 69 wins Take earned in 1987.
