Kawamoto sets 100-fly record

BEPPU, Oita Pref. (Kyodo) Swimmer Kohei Kawamoto set a Japanese record of 51.33 seconds in winning the men’s 100-meter butterfly Saturday at the National Sports Festival being held in Oita Prefecture.

Kawamoto broke the previous national mark of 51.50 Takuro Fujii produced at last month’s Beijing Olympic Games. Fujii, who finished sixth in Beijing, settled for second with a time of 51.80.
