Former world silver medalist Daisuke Takahashi said Tuesday he has parted with coach and choreographer Nikolai Morozov following Morozov’s recent decision to coach his rival Nobunari Oda as well.
“It’s a bit awkward to have the same coach with my rival. I had expected Nikolai to concentrate on me toward the (2010 Vancouver) Olympics,” Takahashi said.
Takahashi will continue to work with longtime coach Utako Nagamitsu while looking for a new choreographer.
With the help of Morozov, Takahashi finished second in 2007 and fourth a year later at the world championships.
“I spoke with Nikolai a week ago and thanked him for three years of work with me. I hope my decision will work positively,” Takahashi said.
Morozov, who guided Shizuka Arakawa to the Turin Olympics gold medal two years ago, also coaches many other skaters, including 2007 world champion Miki Ando.
