Ryu keeps lead as Koga charges

Kyodo

First-round leader Ritsuko Ryu held onto the top of the leaderboard after playing 11 holes in the suspended second round of the Crystal Geyser Ladies on Saturday.

Ryu, who fired an opening 65 on Friday, picked up a shot to get to 8-under while Miho Koga moved into the clubhouse lead on 5-under 139 after completing her second round with a 68 at Keiyo Country Club in Chiba Prefecture.

Rain stopped play for over three hours in the morning and tournament organizers eventually suspended the second round due to darkness with 30 players in the field of 108 still on the course.

Ryu made a birdie and parred the other 10 holes she played in the day to remain a shot clear of fellow winless young gun Maiko Wakabayashi , who had three birdies and two bogeys with seven holes left to play.

South Korea’s Lee Ji Woo went to 6-under after 11 holes. Koga highlighted her blemish-free round with chip-in and tap-in birdies on two of the par-5s.

Among the others who finished two rounds, Akane Azuma, Yuko Mitsuko, Taiwan’s Lu Ya-huei and Chiaki Takahashi went to 2-under 142.
