YOKOHAMA – Kazuki Yoshimi pitched one-run ball over six solid innings and Masahiko Morino and Hirokazu Ibata each homered as the Chunichi Dragons downed the Yokohama BayStars 3-1 on Sunday.
Morino had a leadoff shot in the second inning and Ibata’s homer leading off the sixth broke a 1-1 tie at Yokohama Stadium. Motonobu Tanishige added insurance with an RBI double in the seventh.
Yoshimi (3-0) scattered seven hits, struck out four and walked two and relievers Takashi Ogasawara and Hitoki Iwase combined in the final three innings with Iwase earning his sixth save with a perfect ninth. Daisuke Miura (1-2) took the loss.
Tigers 4, Swallows 2
At Jingu Stadium, Tomoaki Kanemoto went 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs and Naohisa Sugiyama yielded one run over five effective innings as Hanshin held off Tokyo Yakult.
Kanemoto hit a two-run drive off Tatsuyoshi Masubuchi (1-2) in the first inning to move just two shy of his 400th career home run and followed Takahiro Arai’s RBI single with a run-scoring single of his own in the seventh.
Sugiyama (1-1) allowed three hits, struck out four and walked none. Tomoyuki Kubota and Kyuji Fujikawa teamed up to finish off Yakult in the final three frames and Fujikawa earned his league-leading 10th save, striking out three in the ninth.
Carp 5, Giants 4
At Hiroshima Stadium, Akihiro Higashide and Alex Ochoa had back-to-back RBI singles and Tomonori Maeda hit a sacrifice fly to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 lead in the fifth inning as Hiroshima beat Yomiuri.
Colby Lewis (3-2) limited the damage to two runs in seven innings, striking out eight and walking none at Hiroshima Stadium. Yoshiyuki Ishihara hit a solo homer to pad the lead in the sixth and drove in two runs on 3-for-4 hitting.
Michihiro Ogasawara and Shigeyuki Furuki both hit two-run homers but it was not enough for Yomiuri. Koji Uehara (0-3) was charged with four runs in five innings.
Lions 4, Eagles 3 (10)
At Sendai’s Kleenex Stadium, Yasuyuki Kataoka hit a triple and scored on a Koji Aoyama (1-1) wild pitch with one out in the 10th inning, lifting Seibu past Tohoku Rakuten.
Craig Brazell hit his league-leading 10th homer — a two-run shot in the first — and struck out in his other four at-bats. Tetsuya Iwasaki (1-0) pitched a perfect ninth for the win and Alex Graman picked up his sixth save after pitching the 10th.
Takeshi Yamasaki hit a solo drive for Rakuten, which snapped an eight-game winning streak since opening day at its home stadium.

At Tokyo Dome, Yoshihisa Naruse threw eight shutout innings and got plenty of run support as Lotte blanked Orix.
Shunichi Nemoto opened the scoring with a run-scoring triple with two out in the fifth and Shoitsu Omatsu, Tasuku Hashimoto and Toshiaki Imae each homered in a five-run sixth.

At Sapporo Dome, Nobuhiko Matsunaka drove in three runs to help back Tsuyoshi Wada, who allowed two runs over 7 1/3 innings en route to ending Softbank’s three-game losing streak.
