HAMBURG, Germany – Tadahiro Nomura, who is aiming to capture his fourth straight gold at the Beijing Olympics this August, was defeated in the men’s 60-kg final Friday by Ludwig Paischer of Austria at a Super World Cup meet in Germany. Nomura, who made a comeback after 10 months from a knee injury, won four straight matches by ippon until he was toppled by Paischer with a foot technique in the final. “It’s a disappointment,” Nomura said. “I can’t just be happy to be able to compete in judo because I’m shooting for the gold medal in Beijing. I wasn’t able to respond quick enough and wasn’t used to my opponent’s attacking style.” Emi Yamagishi won the women’s 48-kg class, scoring an ippon over Ludmyla Lusnikova of the Ukraine in the final.
