Japanese swimmers Reiko Nakamura and Yuko Nakanishi both set women’s short-course world records at the National Short Course Championships in Tokyo on Saturday.

Nakamura clocked 2 minutes and 3.24 seconds at Tokyo Tatsumi International Swimming Center in the 200-meter backstroke final to shave 0.38 seconds off the previous record held by American Natalie Coughlin since 2001.

Nakanishi then got in on the act when she trimmed 0.41 seconds off Otylia Jedrzejczak’s world mark when she powered home in 2:03.12 in the 200-meter butterfly final.

Kosuke Kitajima, the 100- and 200-breaststroke champ at the 2004 Summer Olympics, cruised to victory in the men’s 100 breast in 57.62 on a day when 10 national records were set.
