NEW YORK – The Chicago Cubs look set to raid the Japanese free agent market this offseason with Chunichi Dragons outfielder Kosuke Fukudome, expected to file for free agency, their prime target, according to a report in the online edition of Thursday’s Chicago Sun Times. “During their recent organizational meetings, sources say, the Cubs focused much of their attention on left-handed-hitting corner outfielder Kosuke Fukudome,” the report said. The report also said the Cubs have “also heavily scouted” Hiroshima Carp right-hander Hiroki Kuroda, who has said he will test the free agent market. The report also said the Cubs will “make a serious run” at Colorado Rockies free agent second baseman Kazuo Matsui.
