Mizutori garnered 15.775 points to claim his fourth podium finish of the week, adding to the silver he won in the team event and his bronze both in the individual all-around competition and floor exercise.

German champion Fabian Hambuechen won the gold with 16.250 and Aljaz Pegan of Slovenia settled for the silver with 15.825.

Mizutori became the first Japanese to collect four medals at the worlds since 1981 when Koji Gushiken, now manager of the Japanese men’s team, won four medals at the world championships in Moscow.

“Winning four medals is fairly awesome,” the 27-year-old from Shizuoka Prefecture said. “Unlike the floor exercise, I thought I could win a medal in the horizontal bar and that made me nervous. I was able to produce good results and give myself more confidence ahead of Beijing.”
