Suntory earns Premier League title

Brazilian attacker Leonardo Mello scored a team-high 20 points to help the Suntory Sunbirds beat Toray Arrows 3-1 and clinch the men’s volleyball Premier League championship on Saturday.

Yu Koshikawa followed with 18 points, including four in blocks, as Suntory won 25-20, 25-22, 18-25, 25-22 in the playoff final to win its seventh title and first in three seasons in the top-tier men’s volleyball league in Japan. Koshikawa was named the MVP of the season.

In the match for third and fourth places held before the final at Saitama Super Arena, the Panasonic Panthers downed the Toyota Gosei Trefuerza 20-25, 28-26, 25-22, 25-20.
