Uemura notches fourth straight

Three-time Olympian Aiko Uemura claimed her fourth straight moguls title at the national freestyle skiing championships on Thursday.

Uemura did not perform her trademark corkscrew air maneuver due to left knee pain but collected 24.69 points to beat runnerup Miki Ito by 1.66 points at Tateyama Sanrei ski course.

“I just gave what I could with this knee,” Uemura said. “I know the problems are not ligaments or meniscus and the pain will go away if I develop muscles around that area.” Yu Masukawa prevailed in a very close battle to win the men’s moguls event with 25.13 points, 0.20 clear of Shingo Kusunoki. Kai Ozaki was third on 24.80.
