CHIBA – Japanese gymnasts Hiroyuki Tomita and Hisashi Mizutori repeated their 1-2 finish at last year’s world championships when they took the top two spots at the NHK Cup on Sunday.
Tomita, who became the first Japanese world all-around champion last November, won his third NHK Cup and first in three years while Mizutori finished runnerup as the two booked their places in this year’s world championships with little trouble.
Tomita earned a winning total of 276.500 points at Makuhari Messe, including the 92.700 he carried over from the previous selection meet for the world championships to be staged in Denmark in October.
