FURANO, Hokkaido – Michal Novotny of the Czech Republic claimed his first World Cup snowboard cross title Friday, while Turin Olympic bronze medalist Dominique Maltais of Canada won the women’s event.
Novotny’s victory came at the season-ending World Cup snowboarding Furano meet in Hokkaido, and Canada’s Jasey Jay Anderson took third, behind second-place Marco Huser of Switzerland.
Anderson became the World Cup point winner in snowboard cross for the first time in four seasons and the second time in his career.
