SAPPORO – Lee Seung Yeop went 3-for-5 with three RBIs to lead a 15-hit attack as the Chiba Lotte Marines beat the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters 15-4 on Wednesday to complete a three-game sweep at Sapporo Dome.
Makoto Kosaka executed a squeeze bunt and Koichi Hori hit a two-run double as Lotte took a 3-0 lead in the third inning and made it 6-0 in the sixth on RBI hits by Saburo Omura, Lee and Toshiaki Imae.
Kuniyuki Kimoto hit a grand slam to pull the Fighters within 6-4 in the bottom of the sixth but the Marines replied with a four-run seventh on a Matt Franco run-scoring single and Lee’s three-run homer.
Lee added an RBI double in a four-run ninth.
Rookie right-hander Yasutomo Kubo (8-1) won his fifth straight decision and first since June 26 after giving up four runs in seven innings. Satoru Kanemura (8-7) was charged with six runs in six innings for the loss.
Second-place Lotte, a surprise package in the first half of the PL pennant race, is 4.5 games behind the Softbank Hawks going into the All-Star break. The Hawks were idle on Wednesday.
