NISHINOMIYA – Akihiro Higashide hit a solo homer to snap a scoreless deadlock in the 10th inning as the Hiroshima Carp shut out the Hanshin Tigers 1-0 to end their five-game losing skid in the Central League on Sunday.

Higashide connected for a shot to right-center off Yuya Ando (4-5), who allowed four hits with seven strikeouts in 10 innings before taking the loss at Koshien Stadium.
Kenny Rayborn, making his first start in Japan since being acquired from the Cleveland Indians, held Hiroshima to five hits with one walk and struck out five over seven strong innings to set the pace for Hiroshima.
Katsuhiro Nagakawa (3-4) was credited with the win after tossing two innings in relief and John Bale got his 10th save.

At Tokyo Dome, Takahiro Saeki went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Shuichi Murata and Tatsuhiko Kinjo both went deep, helping Yokohama to a come-from-behind victory over Yomiuri.
Saeki delivered a bases-clearing double, followed by Murata’s solo blast off Masumi Kuwata (0-3), his 17th homer this season, to change a 2-0 deficit into a 4-2 lead. Cedric Bowers (7-4) was charged with two runs in seven innings to earn the win.

At Gifu’s Nagaragawa Stadium, Kenta Asakura (3-3) limited the damage to two unearned runs in six innings to win his first decision in over two months and Tyrone Woods and Kosuke Fukudome chipped in with three hits and an RBI apiece, carrying Chunichi to its fourth straight win.
Fukudome hit a one-out run-scoring triple to break a 2-2 tie in the sixth and pinch-hitter Mitsunobu Takahashi added insurance with an RBI single to left. Yakult hit into three double plays in a contest that featured nine pitchers in total.

At Fukuoka Yahoo Dome, Hiroyuki Nakajima nailed a go-ahead RBI sacrifice fly to cap a three-run ninth as Seibu came from behind to beat league-leading Softbank.
Down 3-1 in the ninth with one out and two on, Yoshihito Ishii and Hiroyuki Takagi hit back-to-back RBI singles off Hawks reliever Takahiro Mahara (6-5) before Nakajima wrapped up the scoring.

At Sapporo Dome, Hokkaido Nippon Ham scored the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning on a fielding error by Tohoku Rakuten third baseman Yasuo Nagaike as the Fighters snapped their losing skid at four with a “sayonara” win.

At Chiba Marine Stadium, Kevin Beirne (3-9) combined with three relievers on a six-hitter as Orix beat Chiba Lotte for its fourth straight win.
Marines submarine hurler Shunsuke Watanabe (10-3) allowed nine hits in the loss.
