Teenager Daiki Ito gave Japan its first podium finish of the season when he placed third at a World Cup ski jumping meet in Austria on Thursday.

The 19-year-old landed a hill record 143-meter effort on his second jump to soar from ninth into third place, finishing behind winner Martin Hoellwarth of Austria and Finland's Janne Ahonen on 269.5 points.

Hoellwarth won his first Four Hills event with 277 points, denying runaway World Cup standings leader Ahonen, who totaled 271, a sweep of the Four Hills tour.
