ICHIHARA, Chiba Pref. (Kyodo) Former Japan national team coach Philippe Troussier is on a shortlist for the manager’s job at J. League first-division side Vissel Kobe next season, Vissel president Hiroshi Mikitani revealed Saturday.
“Troussier is among the candidates we are considering and we hope to reach a decision within the next two weeks,” Mikitani said after watching Kobe get hammered 5-1 away at JEF United Ichihara.
Troussier led Japan to the second round of the World Cup for the first time at the 2002 finals in Japan and South Korea.
After stepping down as Japan coach, he took charge of the Qatar national team but was fired during the Asian Cup in China this past summer.
Czech coach Ivan Hasek resigned as coach of Kobe in September after seven months in charge because of poor results.
