I was really sad to read the editorial "Disappointing NPT conference" in the May 27 edition because I had really hoped that all countries would abolish their nuclear weapons.

There are two reasons why I think that. The first reason is I think nuclear weapons are the most dangerous and hazardous thing in the world.

In fact, a lot of Japanese were killed in Hiroshima and Nagasaki by nuclear weapons during World War II.

It shows how dangerous nuclear weapons are. Nuclear weapons also have hazardous chemicals, so they have a bad effect on people. For example, people who escaped the explosions in Hiroshima and Nagasaki suffered from cancer.

The second reason is having nuclear weapons is not good for relationships between countries. One example is the Cuban Missile Crisis. That incident raised tensions between the U.S. and Soviet governments. Now, Israel has nuclear weapons, and that fact has made the relationships between Israel and countries surrounding Israel worse. As we can see, having nuclear weapons isn't good for relationships between countries.

Judging from these reasons, all countries really should abolish their nuclear weapons. To make it come true, all countries should sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

If all countries signed the NPT, the world would get real peace. I really hope it comes true soon.
