Tokyo Skytree, the world's tallest broadcasting tower, marked its fifth anniversary on Monday.

As of March, about 26 million people had visited the popular landmark, which is surrounded by the Tokyo Solamachi commercial complex, and around 180 million had visited the entire site, according to the public affairs office of Tokyo Skytree Town.

The 634-meter tower standing in the former Musashi area has a variety of attractions, including two observation decks at 350 meters and 450 meters. The numbers in the tower's height, 634, can be pronounced mu-sa-shi in Japanese.

At an event commemorating the anniversary, Yujiro Shimada, an executive at Tobu Tower Skytree Co., said the company will step up efforts to attract even more visitors.

"When I look up at the (Sky)tree, it lights me up," said Keiichi Tayama of Fujisawa, Kanagawa Prefecture, who had been waiting in line for the event since 6:30 a.m.

"I hope it will be still flourishing 10 years later," Tayama, 51, said.
