Air Force spokesman Marshall Agus Supriatna said the Hercules C-130 plane crashed into a mountainous area in Papua's Jayawijaya Regency, about 3,500 km east of Jakarta, at 6:15 a.m., not far from its destination airport in the town of Wamena.

According to, the plane was carrying 12 tons of basic commodities and cement from Timika to Wamena, a journey of approximately 230 km.

"All of the officers have been found dead," Supriatna said, adding the recovery process is ongoing.

He added that a preliminary investigation found that bad weather may have been the cause of the crash.
