An American man was taken into custody Sunday night at Narita International Airport after he tried to enter the cockpit of a United Airlines aircraft en route to Hong Kong, local police said.

No one was injured in the incident, which occurred at around 3:50 p.m. Sunday aboard United Airlines Flight 895, which had left Chicago bound for Hong Kong, the police and the airline said.

The man, who appears to be in his 60s and whose name has not been released, said he had taken a few types of medicine and had no memory of what he did later, including trying to enter the cockpit, according to the airline.

After the man was subdued by crew members, the flight diverted to Narita airport in Chiba Prefecture to hand over the man to local police. Then the flight departed for Hong Kong.
