Police plan to serve a fresh arrest warrant soon on a Chinese man in custody on suspicion of killing his wife at their home in Tokyo, investigative sources said Thursday.

Zhou Shichao, 37, was arrested in July for allegedly dumping the body of his 34-year-old wife from China, Yang Mei, in a canal near Tokyo Bay.

He is suspected of suffocating her on June 22 in Arakawa Ward, the sources said. The suspect has confessed to killing her, saying they got into a fight over how she spent money, according to the sources.

Zhou and Yang, who got married in 2007 in China, came to Japan as technical intern trainees.

Zhou worked on a farm in Tottori Prefecture and Yang worked at an auto parts factory in Kyoto Prefecture, but both of them disappeared from where they worked. They started living together in Tokyo this year, according to the police.
