A staff member at the Japanese Embassy in Indonesia has been arrested for allegedly stalking his former girlfriend while on vacation in Japan.

The police suspect Hirokazu Suzuki, a 46-year-old first secretary and consul based in Jakarta, entered the woman's apartment building in Okayama Prefecture on March 6. He is also accused of forcing his way into the apartment the next day.

Suzuki was arrested Saturday at Narita International Airport when he was returning to Japan from Jakarta for a holiday. The police had been investigating the case since the woman, who is in her 20s, reported it on March 7.

He was arrested on suspicion of violating the law against stalking.

The police said Suzuki admitted that he forced his way into the woman's home.

The Foreign Ministry said there has been no problem with Suzuki's behavior at work. He joined the ministry in April 1990 and has been posted to Indonesia since October.
