An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.0 jolted eastern Japan including Tokyo on Sunday, the Meteorological Agency said.

No tsunami alert was issued for the 1:24 p.m. quake and its focus was about 40 km below southern Ibaraki Prefecture, the agency said.

The earthquake registered as a 4 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale to 7 in parts of Ibaraki, Tochigi, Saitama, Chiba and Kanagawa prefectures and as a 3 in central Tokyo, it said.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage from the quake.
