Tokyo Gov. Yoichi Masuzoe faced growing pressure Sunday to quit over his alleged misuse of political funds, as a key member of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party said it could support a no-confidence motion that will likely be filed this week.

"It depends on what Mr. Masuzoe says. If he continues making explanations similar to the previous ones (at the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly), we would not be satisfied," Hakubun Shimomura, a special adviser to LDP President and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, said during a TV appearance.

The Tokyo assembly's General Affairs Committee plans to hold intensive deliberations on the fund scandal Monday with the governor attending.
