South Korean survivors of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, who came to the city seeking an apology from U.S. President Barack Obama on Friday for the suffering caused by the bombing, welcomed his speech, which mentioned South Koreans among other victims.

Obama, who became the first sitting U.S. president to visit the city, which was devastated by the atomic bombing on Aug. 6, 1945, said in his speech at Peace Memorial Park that he came "to mourn the dead, including over 100,000 Japanese men, women and children, thousands of Koreans and a dozen Americans held prisoner."

The group, comprising five survivors and the daughter of a survivor as well as their supporters, said the remarks will let people all over the world recognize Korean survivors of the attack.
