A 49-year-old man who injured a 28-year-old conductor was arrested on Monday evening in Shizuoka Prefecture for carrying knives on a bullet train.

The man, Shunichi Nakagawa, was arrested for allegedly having two 15-cm-long kitchen knives with him, a violation of the Sword and Firearm Control Law. When the conductor found him carrying them in the Nozomi 38 bullet train bound for Tokyo from Hakata, Fukuoka Prefecture, and caught him with passengers around her, she was injured on her right hand.

The train made an emergency stop at Kakegawa Station in Shizuoka Prefecture, where the suspect was handed over to the prefectural police. They questioned Nakagawa, but he kept silent, they said.

The stop delayed the train and a following one, affecting about 1,500 passengers.
