More than half of residents living in Shima, Mie Prefecture, are unexcited by the upcoming Group of Seven Ise-Shima Summit, a Kyodo News survey has found.

The findings suggest that the Mie Prefectural Government's efforts to work together with residents to offer omotenashi (Japanese hospitality) is failing to energize some people.

Although expectations are high that the summit on May 26 and 27 will help to invigorate the local economy, tensions are also high due to worries about terrorism. Some respondents said they resent the disruption from heightened security, while others said economic benefits are unlikely to reach young people.
