A moderate shake-up of the nursing care leave system is approaching after the enactment of a revised law last month, as the government tries to help people stay in work rather than quit when faced with the need to take care of relatives.

Under the current system, workers are allowed up to 93 days of nursing care leave, once per family member.

From next January, the leave can be taken in up to three separate periods. And from August, workers will receive more pay, up from 40 percent of their regular wage to 67 percent.
