A bullet believed to have been fired from outside a South Sudan barracks for Ground Self-Defense Force troops deployed on a U.N. peacekeeping mission was found in December 2013, a display at a GSDF camp in Kyoto Prefecture has revealed.

The Defense Ministry, which has a policy of not disclosing whether GSDF accommodations during peacekeeping missions have come under fire, said it was trying to confirm why the GSDF Fukuchiyama camp has exhibited the bullet at its museum.

According to the camp, the 5.45 mm bullet was found on the grounds of the barracks in the South Sudan capital of Juba in the early hours of Dec. 16, 2013, when fighting between government and rebel forces reportedly broke out in the area. The bullet was exhibited with an explanation that it "arrived" at the barracks.
