A 23-year-old man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of abducting a teenage girl from Saitama Prefecture two years ago, police said. The teenager escaped captivity over the weekend.
The arrest of Kabu Terauchi came after he was discharged from a Shizuoka Prefecture hospital, where he was being treated for self-inflicted wounds after attempting suicide by slashing his throat with a box cutter.
The police found Terauchi in the city of Ito in the prefecture on Monday after receiving an emergency call about a man covered in blood. He was transferred to a Saitama police station Thursday.
