Fungus prompts Nisshin Oillio to recall coconut oil products

Nisshin Oillio Group Ltd. is recalling 1.6 million coconut oil products after aspergillus, a type of fungus, has been found in some of them.

It seems that the products become susceptible to the fungus as the oil melts and hardens with changes in its temperature, company officials said.

Subject to the recall are six products, including Nisshin Extra Virgin Coconut Oil and Oil de Supple MCT+Coconut.

The company issued a statement Wednesday that said no health problems have been reported so far.
