An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.5 jolted northeastern Japan on Monday, but there were no fears of tsunami, the Meteorological Agency said.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries from the 3:26 p.m. quake that was centered in Aomori Prefecture at a depth of around 10 km.

It registered lower 5 on the Japanese intensity scale of 7 in parts of southeast Aomori, and 4 in the city of Hachinohe and other places.
