Democrats in Congress hit Obama over holiday deportations — for which Trump takes credit

Congressional Democrats are denouncing the White House over recent deportations of Central American immigrants.

Congressman Luis Gutierrez says there is terror in immigrant communities and that President Barack Obama risks all the goodwill he has built up through his executive actions sparing millions from deportation.

Gutierrez and other lawmakers confronted administration officials including domestic policy adviser Cecilia Munoz at a meeting Thursday.

Gutierrez says he pointed out that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has praised the raids — and taken credit for them.

House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi says the immigrants need lawyers and more help.

Only 121 people have been taken in for deportation, yet Democrats say the publicity around the holiday-season raids has reverberated throughout immigrant communities.
