Trilateral talks on the subject of culture were held between representatives of Japan, China and South Korea in the Chinese city of Qingdao on Sunday, with all three nations agreeing on an action plan for cultural exchanges.

Hiroyuki Yoshiie, Japan's senior vice minister for education, culture, sports, science and technology, met with Luo Shugang and Kim Jong-deok, the respective culture ministers of China and South Korea, and discussed matters surrounding the upcoming Olympic Games in the three countries: The Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea, Tokyo's 2020 Summer Olympics and Beijing's 2022 Winter Games.

The three also discussed plans for the East Asian Culture Cities of 2016, which are the Chinese city of Ningbo, Nara in Japan and South Korea's Jeju province.

A plan to hold trilateral talks on sports was also agreed on, with Seoul being chosen as the venue for the meeting in May, while all parties agreed to an action plan on deepening cultural exchanges with members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and promoting youth exchanges.
