Fast Retailing Corp. said Thursday it planned in February to send up to 100 student interns to overseas Uniqlo stores under a one-week internship program.

It will be the first time Fast Retailing, the operator of the Uniqlo casual clothing chain, dispatches such a large number of student interns to foreign countries.

College and graduate school students, as well as those attending vocational schools, will have the opportunity to work at its Uniqlo stores in Australia, Britain, China, Singapore and Taiwan.

The Global Study Program, which will run from Feb. 15 to Feb. 21, will require participants to learn about business challenges through talks with local managers as well as work out solutions.

Fostering human resources is seen as vital at a time when Fast Retailing is expanding its business overseas.

Students can apply for the program regardless of age and nationality, as long as they are currently studying in Japan. Fast Retailing will shoulder traveling and hotel expenses.
