The foreign ministers of three nuclear powers — the United States, Britain and France — plan to visit Hiroshima's peace park for the first time when they gather in the city in April for a Group of Seven meeting, a diplomatic source said.

The states among the G-7 that possess nuclear weapons have informed the Japanese government that their top diplomats will visit the Peace Memorial Park, in response to Tokyo's invitation to do so to learn about the catastrophic consequences of atomic weapons, the source said Wednesday.

Tokyo hopes the ministers' visit will build momentum for nuclear disarmament after talks at a U.N. review conference on the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty in spring collapsed and failed to produce a consensus document.
