If Hillary Clinton becomes president and tries to renegotiate the hard-earned Trans-Pacific Partnership deal, it would disgrace the dignity of the United States, Japan's chief trade negotiator warned in an interview with The Japan Times and other media outlets Friday.

Clinton, one of the leading candidates, recently said she is opposed to the giant trade pact, which was clinched earlier this week after marathon negotiations.

"It would disgrace the Stars and Stripes banner . . .I don't want to see such a situation," said Akira Amari, who was reappointed economic and fiscal policy minster in Wednesday's Cabinet reshuffle.
