In a widely publicized event last July, the Higashiyama subway line in Nagoya extended its operating hours to provide the "latest last train for subways in Japan."
A year on from its introduction, the Nagoya transportation bureau reports that the project is off to a good start, with the number of users exceeding initial projections.
However, the additional profit from train tickets is still insufficient to cover the cost of increasing the number of trains. It does not seem to have had any impact on revitalizing night life, either, which was the other goal of the project.
