An annual food festival at the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies has come under pressure after health authorities found some of the dishes set to be served failed to meet sanitary regulations, according to university officials.

The Gaigosai Festival, held every November, is known for its wide range of dishes from foreign countries cooked by freshmen at the university, which boasts 27 foreign language courses, including Chinese, French and Laotian.

"We want to do our best (to enable students) to serve as many dishes as possible by addressing the problems," said Kayoko Hayashi, vice president of the university.
