Jetstar Japan Co. launched flights from Narita airport to Hong Kong on Monday, opening the low-cost carrier's second international route after opening service from Kansai International Airport in Osaka to Hong Kong in February.

"We hope Hong Kong will become a city that is easier to travel to," Jetstar Chairman Masaru Kataoka said during a commemoration ceremony for the route at Narita airport, near Tokyo.

The LCC plans to raise its weekly round-trip services to seven from three on Sept. 1.

Fares range from ¥7,500 to ¥45,700, not counting fuel and facility surcharges.

Kataoka said he hopes to launch more international flights, particularly on routes that can be covered in three to four hours from Japan.

"I am thankful to be able to travel to Hong Kong at a one-way cost of around ¥10,000," said 32-year-old Takahiro Onuma, who was on Monday's first flight.
