The Aichi Prefectural Assembly on Friday passed an ordinance that prohibits the hiring of female high school students to provide men with certain services while dressed in school uniforms, effective July 1.

Businesses that hire such teens are dubbed "JK" for joshi kosei (female high school students) and offer an array of services that include massages, bed-sharing and going for walks with male customers. The businesses, while mostly erotic in nature, are presented in a way that skirts regulations under the sex industry law.

The newly revised ordinance on protection and nurturing of youths is the first local regulation in the nation to ban all those services and is directed at girls 17 or younger.

Violators will face up to a year in prison or a fine of up to ¥500,000 (about $4,100).
